- Storage tanks do not need to be installed above or close to collectors
- Relies on natural circulation of water between collector and tank or heat exchanger
- As water in vacuum tubes are heated rise naturally into tank
- Cooler water in tank flows down to bottom of vacuum tubes, causing circulation throughout system

- Tanks are low pressure and open vented
- Tanks are manually filled by opening tap in house
- Once tanks are full water runs out through overflow pipe fed back down into house
- Water starts flowing out tanks are full
- Using water tank gradually drains until empty
- Accustomed to method of operation, user knows much water left in tank and can fill up at appropriate time
- Depending on hot water usage pattern and weather conditions
- Hot water can be used directly for showering or can be used as pre-heat, feeding inlet of instant or tank water heater
